“ This training helped me learn about the foundations of TCTSY and how to better integrate empowerment principles into my work with clients. I came out of the training with more knowledge and confidence about yoga and helping others heal from trauma. I cannot recommend this training highly enough to others! “

“ The TCTSY Foundational Training led by Anna Malmi exceeded my expectations. She certainly has extensive knowledge of the topic, and her hands-on experience was an invaluable part of it. If I had the chance to retake the training, I wouldn't hesitate to choose Anna as the presenter again. I also really enjoyed the live yoga sessions we had with her. I can confidently say that she embodies what she teaches, and does so in a soft and calming manner. I am also deeply grateful for all the insights from her professional practice. Anna created a respectful, safe, and inclusive setting for the training, with lots of room for questions. I have no words to say how grateful I am for the experience and knowledge gained.”

Why trauma-informed practice matters?
Trauma is not a niche issue — it is a widespread reality shaping how people show up in any space: classrooms, clinics, workplaces, yoga classes, and communities. Any work that involves working with humans means encountering people who have endured trauma.
Being trauma-informed is a shift in perspective. It means recognizing how overwhelming stress, interpersonal trauma, and adversity shape the body, the mind, our relationships, and our behavior.
It calls for learning and unlearning alike, to create spaces that feel possibly safer, more supportive, and rooted in empowerment.
It also invites us to reflect on the systems that perpetuate trauma, and on our own lived histories and social positioning that shape how we see and relate to the world and others as well as how we define and offer care.
This self-reflection is essential: without it, trauma-informed care risks becoming just a set of techniques.
With it, we can meet others with greater humility, authenticity, and awareness.
WHAT WILL I LEARN IN THE TRAINING?
We will hold space to explore theory and practice, and to learn together through shared reflection, around the following topics:
Trauma Theory, Attachment Theory, and Interoceptive Neuroscience
Power and Intersectionality
Building Trauma-Sensitive Relationships
Where is the Yoga in Trauma-Sensitive Yoga
Core elements of TCTSY methodology
Challenges and how to approach Breath
TCTSY practice and practice facilitation (including a sample sequence)
WhAT IS MY SCOPE OF PRACTICE?
I believe it is part of trauma-sensitive practice to be transparent about the scope and limits of my work, so that you can make an informed choice about whether I am the right fit for you as a trainer!
My strength as a trainer lies in the practical, lived experience of applying and exploring trauma-informed yoga and TCTSY as a model of care in yoga spaces and yoga studios, as well as with marginalized communities. My work has taken place primarily in group settings, both online and in person, including with people living with dissociative patterns of coping and in environments serving marginalized and vulnerable communities, such as women’s shelters, refugee and migrant centers, and prisons. I share this training as a survivor, yoga facilitator, and through my background in social sciences and project work in humanitarian settings. I am not a therapist, and I do not have direct experience applying this work within clinical or talk-therapy settings, even though some amazing work is being done applying TCTSY in clinical settings!
I intentionally keep training groups small, as I find this supports trust, relational safety, and deeper learning. I approach the training as a co-learning process, shaped by the different lived experiences participants bring. Working with trauma continually reminds us of the limits of our own assumptions, and of how differently the same experience, language, or practice can be received by different people.
when does the NEXT TRAINING take place?
Friday, January 16th - 16.00 - 20.00 CET
Saturday, January 17th - 11.00 -17.00 CET
Sunday, January 18th - 11.00 - 17.00 CET
The course consists of 15 hours of online learning together + 5 hrs of independent study/reading with materials provided. Each day we start and end with a TCTSY- practice. The first hour on Saturday and Sunday is dedicated to TCTSY - practice, where you can have an embodied experience of the methodology. We also end each day with a ca. 30 min TCTSY embodiment practice. Starting from day 2, you will also get the opportunity to try out some of the TCTSY principles.
what is the language of instruction?
The next training is offered primarily in English. Finnish translation or clarification is available when needed. Participants should understand spoken and written English, but questions may be asked in Finnish (also in Spanish, Swedish, and Italian, as I speak these languages).
who is this training FOR?
This training is open to anyone interested in trauma and the body—whether for personal exploration, professional development, or both. Throughout the program, we dedicate significant time to exploring and embodying the core principles of TCTSY, including personal practice, reflection, and experiential learning
HOW DOES THIS TRAINING ADD TO MY FORMAL QUALIFICATIONS?
This training is also the primary prerequisite for the annual 300-hour TCTSY Certification Program.
While this training deepens your scope of practice and gives you tools to start thinking about how to bring the body into the work you do, it does NOT qualify participants to facilitate TCTSY as a model of care; it equips you with essential tools to integrate trauma-informed principles into your current scope of practice.
You’ll be able to call your offerings trauma-informed after completing this training!
The Foundational Training is approved for 20 Continuing Education Hours (CEs) with Yoga Alliance and 18 CEs with the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT).
An official Diploma from the Center for Trauma and Embodiment is provided upon completion.
