“The most impactful aspect for me was understanding the connection between trauma, the body and agency... and how choice making in movement is not a small thing, but something deeply healing for people who have lived without the experience of choosing what happens to their own body.”

REDEFINE HEALING WITH TCTSY - TRAUMA SENSITIVE YOGA
Trauma-Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) is the first and only yoga-based clinical intervention that has been scientifically validated for complex trauma and PTSD.
The TCTSY model is grounded in over two decades of rigorous research and evidence-based practice, and is informed by contemporary perspectives on equity, intersectionality, and relational trauma care.
A 2024 review of 988 studies identified TCTSY as one of the two leading evidence-based interventions for PTSD, alongside Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (Campbell et al.). TCTSY is now also recognized globally as an embodied trauma care model in the Palgrave Handbook of 3rd Wave Psychotherapies.
The original 2014 randomized controlled trial established the scientific foundation of the TCTSY methodology and laid the groundwork for many other trauma-sensitive yoga approaches that followed (Emerson et al.).
TCTSY is the original trauma-informed yoga model, developed within a clinical research context and continuously refined through practice, study, and lived experience

What People Are Saying *
"The daily embodied practices and the five domains of a TCTSY-informed class were deeply impactful. Each session reminded me how overwhelming making choices can feel, how significant silence can be in creating safety. I found interoception both practically and theoretically extremely useful. This training seems to be my entry door to understanding the difference between a traditional/westernised yoga class vs. a trauma-informed one."
“The TCTSY Foundational Training led by Anna exceeded my expectations. Her hands-on experience was an invaluable part of it. I can confidently say that she embodies what she teaches. Anna created a respectful, safe, and inclusive setting for the training, with lots of room for questions.”
"The TCTSY Foundations training was easily the best training I’ve done this year. It helped me understand the basics of the TCTSY philosophy and feel prepared and excited to take on the larger TCTSY certification course. The ample opportunity for hands-on learning has given me confidence to integrate some of the empowerment principles into my own work with clients immediately.”
Why trauma-informed practice matters?
Trauma is not a niche issue — it is a widespread reality shaping how people show up in any space: classrooms, clinics, workplaces, yoga classes, and communities. Any work that involves working with humans means encountering people who have endured trauma.
Being trauma-informed is a shift in perspective. It means recognizing how overwhelming stress, interpersonal trauma, and adversity shape the body, the mind, our relationships, and our behavior.
It calls for learning and unlearning alike, to create anti-oppressive spaces that feel possibly safer, more supportive, and rooted in empowerment.
It also invites us to reflect on the systems that perpetuate and create harm, and on our own lived histories and social positioning that shape how we see and relate to the world and others, as well as how we define and offer care.
This self-reflection is essential: without it, trauma-informed care risks becoming just a set of techniques. With it, we can meet others with greater humility, authenticity, and awareness.
What will you learn in the training?
This slower format is designed to offer more time to engage with the material, reflect between sessions, ask questions, and begin integrating trauma-sensitive principles into your own scope of practice. We will hold space to explore theory and practice, and to learn together through shared reflection, around the following topics:
Nervous System Basics
What about the systems that harm? Intersectionality & Social Oppression
Building trauma-informed relationships: Trauma theory & Attachment theory
Interoceptive Neuroscience & Research
Where is the Yoga in Trauma-Sensitive Yoga
Trauma-Sensitive Yoga in Mexican Prisons: Adapting TCTSY Principles in a complex context
The five core elements of the TCTSY methodology
Ways of approaching Breath
How to meet trauma responses in class
Each friday we go through theory, reflection, and embodiment/yoga practice.
What is my scope of practice as a trainer and facilitator?
My strength as a trainer lies in the practical, lived experience of applying and exploring trauma-informed yoga and TCTSY as a model of care in yoga spaces and yoga studios, as well as with marginalized communities. My work has taken place primarily in group settings, both online and in person, including with people living with dissociative patterns of coping and in environments serving marginalized and vulnerable communities, such as women’s shelters, refugee and migrant centers, and prisons. I share this training as a survivor, yoga facilitator, and through my background in social sciences and project work in humanitarian settings. I am not a therapist, and I do not have direct experience applying this work within clinical or talk-therapy settings, even though some amazing work is being done applying TCTSY in clinical settings!
I intentionally keep training groups small, as I find this supports trust, relational safety, and deeper learning. I approach the training as a co-learning process, shaped by the different lived experiences participants bring. Working with trauma continually reminds us of the limits of our own assumptions, and of how differently the same experience, language, or practice can be received by different people.
What is the schedule of the 8-week immersion?
We meet on Fridays and each session will include a theory component,an embodiment/yoga practice and Q&A we'll also introduce moments for experiential drills for you to explore applying some of the principles. Between sessions, there will be an optional reading and/or a short reflection prompt to support your learning and integration.
To receive the official CFTE & TCTSY completion certificate, at least some attendance in the live sessions is required.
The course consists of over 20h hours of online learning together + independent study/reading with materials provided.
The whole training, including the trauma-sensitive yoga and embodiment practices, will be recorded, so if there is a moment or part you miss, you can always circle back to the recording and watch later.
What is the language of instruction?
The training is offered primarily in English. Participants should understand spoken and written English, but we can address questions and clarifications in Finnish, Spanish, Swedish, and Italian, as I speak these languages.
Who is this training for?
This training is open to anyone interested in trauma and the body—whether for personal exploration, professional development, or both. Throughout the program, we dedicate significant time to exploring and embodying the core principles of TCTSY, including personal practice, reflection, and experiential learning
When does this training take place?
The training starts September 4th and ends October 23rd.
We meet each Friday from 18:00 to 20:30/21:00 (Central European Time).
If you miss live sessions, you can always catch up through the recordings.
How does this training add to your formal qualifications?
If you are planning to move toward CFTE’s 300-hour TCTSY Certification Program, this training qualifies as the foundational training required for application.
While this training deepens your scope of practice and equips you with tools to begin thinking about how to bring the body into the work you do, it does NOT qualify participants to facilitate TCTSY as a model of care; it equips you with essential tools to integrate trauma-informed principles into your current scope of practice.
You’ll be able to call your offerings trauma-informed after completing this training!
The Foundational Training is approved for 20 Continuing Education Hours (CEs) with Yoga Alliance and 18 CEs with the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT).
An official Diploma from the Center for Trauma and Embodiment is provided upon completion.
